The galleries and collection
The galleries take you through a chronological account of art and objects from different cultures and civilisations, from prehistory to the present. The display brings together works from the museum’s permanent collection and loans from international partner institutions, so the route connects objects across periods and places.
The museum opened on 8 November 2017 and was designed by architect Jean Nouvel. A 90-minute guided architectural experience is offered for visitors interested in the building’s design. General admission is also required for the daily Express Tours, which last 45 minutes, run at 12pm and 4pm, and cost AED 50.

The dome and outdoor areas
The dome and waterfront give you an outdoor part of the visit alongside the galleries. Visitors may walk outside along the Promenade area, with the museum’s dome rising above the water. If you are making a longer waterfront day of it, how to plan time along the Abu Dhabi Corniche covers another stretch of the city’s coast.
Visitor access and facilities
You can borrow a wheelchair or stroller free from the Loan Desk, subject to availability. Motorised wheelchairs and single strollers are welcome in the galleries; double-wide strollers are not allowed inside and will be stored during the visit.
