The fort’s original watchtower was built in 1790 and is described as Abu Dhabi’s first permanent structure. The Inner Fort followed in 1795, and the Outer Palace was added between 1939 and 1945. After more than 11 years of conservation and restoration, Qasr Al Hosn opened as a museum in 2018.

Inside the historic site, you can explore the Inner Fort and Outer Palace and learn about Abu Dhabi’s history and the ruling Al Nahyan family. The House of Artisans focuses on three crafts: Al Sadu, Khoos and Talli.

Al Sadu is Bedouin wool weaving; Khoos uses date-palm leaves; and Talli is embroidery made with cotton or silk threaded with gold and silver. Al Sadu was recognised by UNESCO in 2011.
